A pour-over kettle is the core tool for controlling water flow in the pour-over coffee process. It’s not simply a “water container,” but a “bridge” connecting the barista’s (or enthusiast’s) intentions with the flavor of the coffee beans. Every design element is aimed at ensuring the water flow perfectly matches the extraction needs, ultimately releasing the coffee’s delicate aromas and layers of flavor.

Aesthetically, pour-over kettles are typically characterized by a long, slender spout—usually 10-15 centimeters long, with a pointed “swan’s beak” or slightly flared “slanted” end. This design minimizes water flow dispersion, allowing the water to fall precisely onto the coffee grounds on the filter paper like a fine thread. Whether using circular extraction or targeted pouring, it prevents the water from scattering the coffee grounds and causing uneven extraction due to a coarse flow. Some high-end pour-over kettles also feature “flow channels” on the inside of the spout to further optimize water flow stability, allowing even beginners to easily control the water flow speed.
